About Allison

In 2009, I earned a master's degree in English Literature from the University of Houston, and graduated with honors from South Texas College of Law in 2012. Most people wouldn't guess that I didn't graduate from high school and instead earned a GED. I know what it is like to make decisions that don't define the rest of your life. I care a lot about the power of words and understanding the whole story.

I've been practicing criminal defense for over a decade, and in that time, I have handled hundreds of cases from low-level misdemeanors to sex assaults and murder as both a trial and appellate attorney. No matter how weird and wild your story is, I've probably heard weirder and wilder. I have served as the Chief Public Defender of the Republic of Palau, the Tribal Advocate of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Reservation, and as a public defender in Texas and New Mexico. I recently supervised an office of 30 defense attorneys who fought criminal trespassing and human smuggling cases at the border. I'm proud of my work, and I love what I do.

I write a column for the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice Magazine ("Ask Allison") and I have taught law at community college and paralegal schools. I also frequently present at continuing legal education programs for other lawyers. I collect teapots and venus flytraps, and I generally don't like abuses of authority. I am currently running for judge of the 338th Judicial District Court.
